Back Painted Glass
D&W is one of the few producers of back painted glass in the USA that uses a curtain coat application to back paint glass. The setup costs are a little higher but the end result is a perfectly smooth coating with no lines or issues commonly associated with spray techniques. The thickness of the paint can be controlled to an extremely high level of precision and large volume orders become incredibly cost effective.
Utilizing the highest quality paints and glass, D&W can back paint prefabricated parts, tempered parts, or stock sheets. Combined with the array of fabrication processes D&W already has, virtually anything is possible.
D&W has plans to include medium and small volume options in the future
Formation of the Curtain
Paint is pumped through a specialized curtain coater that is optimized for a specific thickness of paint on the glass. Glass is sent through at a constant rate of speed in the “speed up” section of the line. Perfectly painted glass comes out the other side and into the ovens for curing. With a water based system, there are no solvents, no air pollution, and consistent results.
Painted Glass Exiting the Curtain and Beginning to Cure
Once the glass is coated, it is sent to a set of ovens to cure. The ovens cure the paint to about 90% full cure and tack free. The glass will continue to cure once packed and is considered fully cured in about 24 hours. (Streaks on the glass are on the first surface and will be wiped off without affecting the quality of the finished product)
